Ham Radio License
An ARRL Volunteer Examiner (VE) coordinated test session will be offered at 11:00 a.m., during the GrayHamfest®, at the Gray United Methodist Church, just east of the Appalachian Fairgrounds.
Pre-registration is not a requirement, walk-ins are welcome. Arrive on time to complete the pre-test paperwork. Your test will be graded before you leave.
Types of FCC License Tests :
Test questions will be those found in the current NCVEC Question Pool which are also copied to ARRL education materials.
- Technician Class License (35 Questions)
- General Class License (35 Questions)
- Amateur Extra Class License (50 Questions)
Note: The FCC has eliminated the requirement to pass a Morse code test for any amateur license, effective Feb. 23, 2007.
Bring:
- Identification: A legal photo ID
Your driver's license, passport, school ID, etc.) or two forms of other ID (Social Security card, birth certificate, utility bill, bank statement, postmarked envelope, etc. - Upgrading: FCC License
Provide an original of your current FCC License (or CSCE [3]) for review and a copy (to be submitted with your test material results ). - $15 Exam Fee (Exact cash, please.)
- A Pencil Soft-lead (#2)
- Calculator (as needed)
Note: Books or other reference materials are not allowed during testing.

Directions:
º Take the directions toward the GrayHamfest® at the Applachian Fairgrounds. (MapQuest® Map)
º Just east of the Fairground entrance, you will find the church (pictured above) on Chapel St. (between Oak St. and Ford St).
º Drive around to the parking lot in back of the church on Maple Dr. (pictured below) and enter the test session at the rear covered porch area.
